Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has congratulated Malam Shehu Dikko on his appointment as Chairman of the newly reinstated National Sports Commission (NSC). President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the revival of the NSC on October 23, after disbanding the Federal Ministry of Sports, which had replaced the NSC in 2016.

Dikko, a former vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and an experienced marketing expert, was appointed with a mandate to rejuvenate Nigeria’s sports sector. Musa expressed confidence in Dikko’s qualifications, calling him “a round peg in a round hole,” whose experience and passion for sports would drive positive transformation.

“His appointment didn’t come as a surprise,” Musa stated. “Dikko personifies everything required to reposition sports in Nigeria. With his international exposure and business acumen, he is well-suited to make sports a lucrative industry amidst the government’s limited resources.”

Reflecting on his experience working with Dikko, Musa praised his commitment to sports, especially football, adding that Dikko’s expertise would lead to “indelible footprints in the sports sector.” He urged stakeholders to rally behind Dikko, emphasizing that collaboration is crucial for real change.

“Dikko is approachable, selfless, and compassionate,” Musa said. “This is the first time a true technocrat has been appointed to oversee sports, and I am confident he will justify the trust placed in him by Mr. President.”

As a respected figure in Nigerian sports and Kano State’s Sports Ambassador, Musa emphasized that “a tree can’t make a forest,” calling for collective support to elevate Nigerian sports under Dikko’s leadership.
