The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University Chapter, has called off its six-week strike, which began on September 11, 2024. The decision was made after a meeting held on October 24, 2024.
In a statement released on Thursday, the union announced that the industrial action was suspended following an agreement reached with the state government. The notice was signed by the ASUU Gombe Chairperson, Suleiman Jauro, and the union’s Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
The statement noted that the union had reviewed “an update on the negotiation between the State Government Negotiation Committee and the branch.” As a result, the lecturers decided to suspend the strike, with academic activities set to resume immediately.
The strike was initially launched in response to a range of unresolved issues, including demands for an improved welfare package for the lecturers.
