Real Madrid have reportedly cooled their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, despite the Dutch defender being on the club’s radar. While Frimpong’s €40 million release clause is well within the reach of the Spanish giants, their primary focus remains on securing Liverpool’s captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to journalist Christian Falk, Frimpong is open to a potential move, but Real Madrid has yet to make any serious advances. “For now, Real Madrid are far from making any concrete move for Frimpong,” Falk revealed in The Daily Briefing.
Though Frimpong features on Madrid’s shortlist as a potential backup option, the La Liga champions are waiting to see how their pursuit of Alexander-Arnold unfolds before considering alternative targets. Should their efforts to sign the Liverpool star fall through, Frimpong could emerge as a more viable candidate.
Meanwhile, other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, have also shown interest in Frimpong. Should Liverpool lose Alexander-Arnold to Madrid, the Dutchman is considered a likely replacement for the England international.
As of now, Frimpong’s future remains uncertain, with several top clubs keeping an eye on his situation. However, Real Madrid seem committed to pursuing Alexander-Arnold as their top target, leaving Frimpong’s potential move to the Bernabéu on hold for the time being.
