TikTok has announced the removal of over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024 due to violations of its community guidelines.
This action is part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to enhance content moderation and ensure a safer experience for users.
According to the Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Tuesday, 99.1% of the videos were proactively removed before being reported by users, with 90.7% taken down within 24 hours.
“These figures highlight TikTok’s commitment to staying ahead of harmful content and ensuring a safer platform for Nigerian users,” the report stated.The videos removed represent less than 1% of all uploads in Nigeria during the period.
Globally, TikTok removed over 178 million videos in June 2024, with 144 million flagged by automated systems.
The platform noted that its global proactive detection rate now stands at 98.2%.TikTok assured users that it will continue to invest in advanced technologies to improve content moderation and better understand emerging risks.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and platform safety for its diverse user base in Nigeria and around the world.
