A devastating fire swept through the residence of Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki, Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, on Sunday, causing extensive damage to properties valued at millions of naira. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
In a statement, Bello Madaro, the Chief Press Secretary for the House of Assembly, confirmed that while there were no injuries, the financial loss is significant.
The Clerk of the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, expressed deep shock on behalf of the assembly and its staff, labeling the incident a “tragic calamity.”
He stated, “Zamfara Assembly expresses shock over the fire incident that gutted the residence of Rt. Honorable Speaker Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki.”
Aliyu further reflected on the nature of such events, suggesting it was “something destined by Allah,” and prayed for divine intervention to prevent future occurrences.
He extended the condolences of the entire assembly to Moriki, his family, and the residents of Zurmi West constituency and Zurmi local government area.
In response to the incident, Moriki expressed gratitude that there were no casualties. He also thanked the officials and good Samaritans who assisted in combating the blaze, praying for Allah to reward their efforts abundantly.
