El-Rufai Eyes Political Comeback in 2027 Amid Denial of Corruption Allegations

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has announced his plan to re-enter Nigerian politics in 2027 after taking a break for further studies. In a recent interview with Freedom Radio Kaduna, El-Rufai also addressed allegations of misappropriating N423 billion during his tenure, firmly denying any wrongdoing.

El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna from 2015 to 2023, was initially considered for a ministerial role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. However, political maneuvering led to his exclusion from the cabinet. Despite the setback, the former governor expressed his continued commitment to public service, stating, “I plan to return to politics in 2027 after completing my studies. Politics has no retirement.”

He dismissed the claims of corruption made by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, insisting that his administration had been transparent. “I didn’t enter politics to steal or enrich myself. I was already content with what I had before becoming governor,” he said, adding that investigations by both the ICPC and EFCC have failed to produce any concrete evidence against him or his allies.

El-Rufai revealed that he has instructed his legal team to take action against those attempting to tarnish his reputation, emphasizing, “I have left everything to Allah’s judgment.” Despite stepping back from active politics, he assured the public that he continues to collaborate with individuals dedicated to genuine public service, saying, “You don’t need to hold a government position to serve.”

The former governor remains a significant political figure, with his eyes set on resuming his political career in 2027.
