The Senate has summoned the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to address concerns over the worsening condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road. The decision was made on Wednesday following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North).
Senator Abdulfatai expressed deep concern about the poor state of the road, a critical route linking the South to the North, which has become a major source of hardship for commuters. He highlighted the frequent stranding of travellers and the increasing distress caused by the road’s dilapidated condition.
“For over 10 years, despite the Federal Government’s efforts to initiate repairs, the road remains in a deplorable state,” Abdulfatai noted, citing regular accidents and persistent gridlock caused by heavy vehicles as key issues.
In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the Committee on Works to investigate the situation and report back to the plenary within three weeks.
