The Nigerian Army has successfully eliminated eight terrorists and rescued 40 hostages in a series of coordinated operations across the country.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, the Army confirmed that these recent victories have intensified the pressure on terrorists and their collaborators.

The Army also apprehended a notorious arms courier, who was found with a large cache of ammunition, marking a significant blow against arms proliferation by criminal elements.

On September 28, troops, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State. This led to the arrest of a firearms courier and the recovery of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition hidden in a bag. The suspect and his vehicle were taken into custody, and investigations are underway to apprehend his accomplices.

In a separate operation in Borno State, troops encountered fleeing terrorists in Faayijiwa Fandanari village in the Magumeri Local Government Area. During the clash, they recovered two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, hard drugs, and other supplies.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, troops executed precision strikes in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. Additional engagements in Ankwa village of Kachia Local Government Area led to the death of two more terrorists and the recovery of a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a motorcycle.

In Kukawa Local Government Area, intelligence-led operations resulted in the successful interception of terrorists trying to relocate abducted victims from Cijin village. The terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning 38 hostages—including six men, eight women, and 24 children—who were safely rescued.

In Yobe State, troops responded to reports of extortion by terrorists in Sasawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area, where they ambushed the criminals, neutralized one terrorist, and recovered an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle.

The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their courage and relentless efforts in fighting for peace. He also expressed gratitude to the citizens for their continuous provision of credible information, which has been instrumental in the success of these operations.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to eliminate terrorism and protect the lives of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.

In Gwoza Local Government Area, operations continued with the neutralization of three terrorists near Ashigashiya village. Additionally, troops intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting logistics to terrorists at Gubio, seizing three vehicles loaded with food supplies intended for terrorist camps and recovering N2,400.
