Antoine Griezmann, 33, has officially retired from international football after a remarkable career representing France.

A pivotal figure in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, Griezmann departs as the nation’s third-most capped player with 137 appearances and the fourth-highest goal scorer, with 44 goals to his name.

Griezmann was named man of the match in the 2018 World Cup final and was the standout performer at Euro 2016, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer. Although France fell short against Portugal in the final, Griezmann claimed both the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament award.

In the 2022 World Cup, Griezmann adapted to a deeper midfield role, playing a key part in France’s journey to the final. His contributions earned him the Silver Ball as the tournament’s second-best player, behind only Lionel Messi. Additionally, he set a new record with 84 consecutive appearances for France, spanning from 2016 to 2024.

Griezmann’s international breakthrough came at Euro 2016, where his six goals propelled France to the final. Despite their loss to Portugal, he was later ranked third in the Ballon d’Or, a position he would repeat after the 2018 World Cup. His midfield role in the 2022 World Cup was instrumental in France’s success, with two crucial assists in the quarter-final win over England.

Griezmann leaves a lasting legacy, ranking among France’s greatest players. Only Hugo Lloris and Lilian Thuram boast more caps, while Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, and Kylian Mbappé have surpassed his goal tally.
