The Federal Government has approved a significant raise in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to N77,000, effective from July 2024.

Caroline Embu, the acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, confirmed the increase following the implementation of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

The approval was formally communicated through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by its chairman, Ekpo Nta, on September 25, 2024.

This decision follows a visit by NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, to the commission’s chairman, where he advocated for improved welfare for corps members.

The NYSC expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, stating, “This timely increase will offer much-needed relief to our corps members and significantly boost their morale during national service.”

Previously, NYSC members received a monthly stipend of N33,000.
