The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Out of the total number of candidates who participated, 60.55% secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Announcing the results at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the Registrar of the Council, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, revealed that a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, consisting of 706,950 males and 669,473 females.

Providing further details, Wushishi noted that 1,367,736 candidates actually sat for the exams. Out of this, 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55%, passed with five credits or more in both English and Mathematics.

Additionally, 1,147,597 candidates, or 83.90%, secured five credits irrespective of English and Mathematics.

In terms of examination malpractice, there was a notable decline in cases compared to the previous year.

The NECO registrar disclosed that 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024, a significant reduction from the 12,030 cases recorded in 2023. This represents a decrease of 30.1%.

However, concerns were raised over the involvement of 40 schools in mass cheating during the conduct of the examination.

These schools, spread across 17 states, are expected to face sanctions following investigations.

One school in Ekiti State has already been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one Science subject.

Additionally, 21 supervisors were found guilty of poor supervision, aiding malpractice, and other forms of misconduct during the examination process.

These supervisors, spread across 12 states, have been recommended for blacklisting.

Wushishi encouraged all candidates who took the examination to check their results on the NECO website using their registration numbers.
