The Borno State Police Command has introduced a set of post-flood guidelines to manage the aftermath of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, the state capital.
In a press release on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil stated that Commissioner of Police Mohammed Yusufu emphasized the need for caution and vigilance in addressing potential risks following the disaster.
“The Command is working closely with relevant agencies to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, prevent criminal activities, and support rescue operations for those affected by the flood,” the statement read.
Residents are advised to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or individuals.
The guidelines also caution against entering flooded areas to minimize the risk of waterborne diseases and accidents and warn of the potential for looting or theft.
The public is encouraged to cooperate with emergency responders and humanitarian workers and to verify information before sharing it to avoid the spread of misinformation.
The police command urges the public to remain calm and vigilant, providing emergency contact numbers: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
Authorities stressed the importance of a collective effort to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents during this post-flood period.
