The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were suspected to have been killed by bandits while travelling along the route.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to Channels Television correspondent in Niger State on Wednesday.
According to Abiodun, police and military tactical teams were mobilised to the area following information received on Tuesday about the discovery of the bodies.
He said the security personnel recovered and evacuated the bodies from the scene.
The police spokesperson added that clearance operations had been intensified along the route and surrounding areas to prevent further attacks and strengthen security.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of travellers along the Wawa-Lumma axis, which has faced growing security threats.
