Real Madrid have suffered a major setback in their La Liga title push after Eder Militao and Arda Guler were ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The club confirmed on Thursday that Militao has sustained a left thigh injury, while Guler is sidelined with a right thigh problem.
According to Spanish media reports, both players are expected to be out for several weeks and will miss the final six matches of the campaign, including the crucial El Clásico clash against FC Barcelona on May 10.
Despite the setback, neither Militao, 28, nor 21-year-old Guler is currently expected to miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Real Madrid currently trail defending champions Barcelona by nine points in the La Liga title race, with the league representing their only remaining opportunity for major silverware this season.
