Security was significantly heightened in Jos on Wednesday as the Plateau State Government arraigned suspects linked to recent killings in the state.

Armed security personnel were deployed around the court premises to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the proceedings. The development follows the arrest of suspects by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the deadly attacks in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area. The suspects are facing charges bordering on terrorism and other related offences.

According to court filings, they are accused of conspiring and participating in attacks that led to multiple deaths. One of the charges reads: “That you… did conspire amongst yourselves to commit offences relating to terrorism when you planned, organized, facilitated… the attack in Angwan Rukuba…” Another count alleges that the defendants carried out acts that resulted in fatalities during the attack, with prosecutors insisting the offences are punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

A fifth defendant is also facing additional counts, including culpable homicide and illegal possession of firearms, linked to broader attacks across parts of the state. The arraignment marks a key step in efforts by authorities to ensure accountability following the violence, which claimed dozens of lives and triggered renewed security operations across affected communities.

The case is expected to proceed as the government seeks justice for victims and reinforces its commitment to tackling insecurity in Plateau State.
