The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as co-hosts for its 12th edition, scheduled to hold in Lagos.
The ceremony is set for May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, and will bring together filmmakers, entertainers and industry stakeholders from across the continent.
The announcement marks a significant change in the show’s presentation, as longtime host IK Osakioduwa steps down after anchoring the awards for 11 consecutive years since its inception in 2013.
Organisers said the new hosting duo reflects a refreshed direction for the event while maintaining its core mission of celebrating excellence in African film and television.
Speaking on his selection, Bovi described the opportunity as a major milestone, promising to deliver an engaging performance. He said he would bring “energy, laughs, and magic” to the ceremony while spotlighting African storytelling.

Mbatha, an actress, producer and humanitarian, joins the lineup with notable international credits, including her role in Shaka iLembe, where she also serves as executive producer.
In announcing the hosts, organisers described the pairing as a blend of “wit, narrative, and global screen advocacy,” adding that the 12th edition will celebrate “African excellence” in storytelling and entertainment.
Veteran actress Joke Silva has been appointed head judge for the awards, which will honour outstanding achievements across film and television categories.
Leading this year’s nominations are Gingerrr and The Herd with nine nominations each, followed by To Kill A Monkey with eight. My Father’s Shadow also secured multiple nominations across key categories.
The AMVCA continues to attract strong corporate backing, with support from major brands spanning the beverage, telecommunications and consumer goods sectors.
