Real Madrid booked their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 after a 2–1 victory over SL Benfica on Wednesday secured a 3–1 aggregate win.
Vinícius Júnior was on the scoresheet as the Spanish giants overcame a spirited challenge from the Portuguese side to progress to the next round.
Benfica struck first on the night and drew level on aggregate through Rafa Silva, raising hopes of a comeback.
However, Madrid responded almost immediately, with Aurélien Tchouaméni restoring their advantage. Vinícius then sealed the victory with a late goal to confirm Los Blancos’ progression to the knockout stage.
The result ensured a 3–1 aggregate triumph for Madrid, who now advance to the last 16 as they continue their pursuit of European glory.
