A fatal high way collision on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Thursday claimed 21 lives, leaving several others injured.
The accident involved a trailer truck and a Hummer bus, which were both en route to Kano and Batsari in Katsina State.
The incident occurred near a diversion point on the highway, where traffic from both directions was forced into a single lane. This created a high-risk zone for vehicles, leading to the fatal collision.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the articulated vehicle fled the scene, leaving his truck and a container behind, which blocked the highway.
This has caused a significant traffic buildup, leaving many motorists stranded for hours.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), who arrived at the scene, confirmed that three passengers survived the crash.
The survivors were rushed to the Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for treatment, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue.
The FRSC and local police are still working to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
The authorities urged drivers to exercise caution and patience on this heavily trafficked route.
As of now, both the FRSC and the police have yet to officially confirm the full details of the incident.
However, the Divisional Police Officer of Tafa Division in Kaduna, Idris Ibrahim, is reportedly compiling a detailed report on the crash.
