The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, said the seizure was made on February 2, 2026, by operatives of the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance and monitoring.

According to the agency, the trailer, loaded with Dangote Cement, departed Obajana in Kogi State and was heading to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was intercepted along the Zaria–Kano axis. The driver has been arrested and is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation.

Commenting on the operation, the NDLEA Kano State Commander, D.Y. Lawal, said the illicit consignment had been hidden within legitimate cargo and was suspected to be intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period.

He warned traffickers against using the state as a transit or distribution point, stating: “We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual well-being of our communities.”

The command said the interception was the result of meticulous intelligence work and reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying patrols, strengthening checkpoints and sustaining intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The agency added that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the network behind the shipment, noting that all those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

NDLEA also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that community cooperation is vital to curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding public safety.
