Nigeria’s Super Eagles wrapped up their AFCON 2025 Group C campaign in emphatic fashion, recording a 3–1 win over Uganda to seal a perfect run, despite having already secured qualification for the Round of 16 before kick-off.
The Super Eagles dominated from the outset and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu capitalised on sustained pressure to give Nigeria a deserved lead, setting the tone for a commanding performance.
Nigeria maintained control after the interval and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute, as Raphael Onyedika finished calmly following a swift attacking move. The midfielder struck again just five minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area in the 67th minute to effectively put the contest beyond Uganda’s reach.
Uganda’s situation worsened when they were reduced to 10 men after a red card, leaving the Cranes struggling as Nigeria dictated the tempo with confidence and authority.
The East Africans managed a late consolation goal, but it did little to change the complexion of a match the Super Eagles had long controlled, underlining Nigeria’s squad depth, discipline and attacking sharpness.
The victory confirmed Nigeria’s maximum points haul in Group C and sustained momentum heading into the knockout stage, while Uganda exited the competition after a challenging group campaign.
With three wins from three and composed performances throughout, the Super Eagles advance to the Round of 16 as one of the most convincing contenders at AFCON 2025.
