Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has survived a road traffic accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, with unconfirmed reports indicating that two persons may have lost their lives in the crash.

The incident occurred on Monday along the Shagamu Interchange axis of the expressway. Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, confirmed the development, saying the state government promptly dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

Images circulating from the crash site showed a shirtless Joshua standing amid the wreckage, surrounded by sympathisers. He appeared not to have sustained any serious injuries.

According to Punch, eyewitnesses at the scene claimed that “two dead” resulted from the accident, while Joshua reportedly suffered only minor injuries. However, the police are yet to officially confirm the number of casualties.

The crash was said to have occurred when a Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN collided with a stationary truck along the route.

The incident comes nine days after Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout at the Kaseya Centre in Miami. The boxer has been in Nigeria on a yuletide holiday since the fight.
