Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has revealed why Victor Osimhen’s anticipated move to Chelsea failed to materialize this summer.
Speaking on his podcast, Mikel stated that the deal was “very, very close” to completion but was derailed by last-minute “slight issues.”
Mikel emphasized that Osimhen wasn’t driven by greed, clarifying, “He wasn’t asking for £500,000 or anything unreasonable. He just wanted what he felt he deserved.”
Reflecting on the transfer breakdown, Mikel explained, “We were just hours away from finalizing the deal, but a few minor problems stopped it from happening.”
He also pointed out that time constraints and the inability to conduct the necessary medical tests played a role. “If we pick it up again in January, I know exactly where to start,” Mikel added.
