Super Eagles striker Victor Okoh Boniface has expressed his belief that no matter who is appointed as the national team’s head coach, Nigerians will always find reasons to criticize.
Since the departure of former coach Finidi George, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has struggled to appoint a new head coach, a situation that has frustrated fans as the Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifier games draw near.
While negotiations with a potential candidate were reportedly close, talks eventually collapsed, leading to yet another appointment of Augustine Eguavoen as interim coach.
In an interview with Football Fans Tribe, Boniface stated that it makes little difference whether the coach is locally based or from abroad, as Nigerian fans will always have opinions. “The truth is, even if we bring Guardiola, Nigerians will still have something to say,” Boniface said. “But I’m the type of person that doesn’t care about what people think because they’re not with the team.”
He emphasized that the focus of the players is on performing well on the pitch, despite the inevitable criticism. “Our job is to give it all on the pitch, and that’s it. It’s life—people will always criticize. So, no matter which coach you bring, people will always have something to say.”
The comments reflect a growing frustration among Super Eagles players and fans over the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the team’s coaching situation.
