The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing his recent attack on Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi as unbecoming of his office.
Wike had taken a swipe at Obi following the former Anambra State governor’s visit to a government primary school in Abuja, where Obi lamented the poor state of infrastructure and the deplorable learning conditions.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ADC-FCT Publicity Secretary, Chukwudi Samuel, said Obi’s observations should have spurred action from the minister rather than resentment.
“Leadership is about service, not ego. If a citizen, no matter who he is, points out decay in governance, a responsible minister fixes it, not fights it,” the party stated.
The ADC further described as “laughable” Wike’s attempt to compare his two years as FCT Minister with Obi’s eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra State. The party noted that historical records show Obi left billions of naira in reserves, along with notable achievements in education and healthcare.
