The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has released the timetable for the screening of chairmanship and councillorship candidates ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 19, 2024.

According to a statement signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mrs. Hajara Mohammed, the screening exercise will take place from Monday, September 9 to Monday, September 16, 2024.

The exercise will run daily from 9 am to 6 pm at the respective local government headquarters.

The statement referenced Section 19 of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission Law of 2024, along with relevant items from the 2024 Local Government Council Election Timetable and Guidelines, as the legal framework for the screening process.

The timetable read, “Based on the above, you are hereby informed that the screening exercise for the prospective chairmanship and councillorship candidates is scheduled to hold from Monday, Sept. 9 to Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, from 9 am to 6 pm daily.”

This announcement follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent praise of the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the constitutional rights of local governments, underscoring the importance of grassroots governance.

President Tinubu emphasized the responsibility of local council leaders to provide impactful, people-oriented services that directly benefit citizens at the community level.
