Manchester United’s turbulent season took another blow at the GTech Community Stadium, where they suffered a 3-1 defeat to a ruthless Brentford side, piling further pressure on manager Rúben Amorim.

Keith Andrews’ men started brightly and struck inside eight minutes, when Jordan Henderson’s pinpoint long ball released Thiago, who raced clear before finishing emphatically past Altay Bayındır.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead moments later, but Bayındır denied Sepp van den Berg and Nathan Collins with quickfire saves. Brentford’s persistence paid off in the 20th minute as Thiago pounced from close range to claim his second of the game.

United briefly rallied, with Benjamin Šeško pulling one back after firing beyond Caoimhín Kelleher to open his Red Devils account.

The visitors pushed hard after the restart and looked set for a comeback when awarded a penalty following a foul on Bryan Mbeumo. However, Bruno Fernandes squandered the chance from 12 yards, missing his second spot-kick of the season.

That proved costly as Brentford sealed victory in stoppage time, Mathias Jensen curling a sublime strike beyond Bayındır to cap a dominant performance.
