Nigerian chef and food influencer Hilda Baci has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records for cooking the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, a dish celebrated across West Africa.
The feat was confirmed on Monday, September 15, 2025, after thousands of Nigerians gathered in Lagos three days earlier to witness the event.
The attempt drew huge crowds of Gen Zs, millennials, food lovers, vendors, and celebrities who came out in support, with social media buzzing under trending hashtags such as #HildaBaci and #GuinnessWorldRecord.
Jollof rice, a staple dish popular in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, is often at the center of culinary rivalry in the region. Baci’s record attempt marked the first time anyone has attempted to prepare the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The 28-year-old chef is no stranger to global recognition. In 2023, she made headlines after setting the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking 93 hours and 11 minutes in the kitchen.
Her latest achievement has further cemented her place as one of Nigeria’s most prominent culinary figures, while also showcasing Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.
