The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to tackling youth unemployment and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Akume gave the assurance in Abuja when he received the newly elected executive council of the Nigerian Youth Council (NYC), led by Comrade Jethro Annum, during a courtesy visit.

He praised the delegation for its solidarity with the federal government and emphasized that the current administration has introduced several pragmatic policies designed to ease the burden on citizens and open opportunities for young people.

He also pledged continued government support for youth development, including the provision of a befitting secretariat and logistics assistance to strengthen the NYC’s capacity in mobilizing, sensitizing, and empowering young Nigerians nationwide.

Speaking on behalf of the youth body, NYC Board Chairman, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, expressed gratitude for the federal government’s support and commended the administration for its initiatives aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.

He particularly highlighted the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other empowerment programmes targeted at young people, describing them as crucial to national development.

Shendam further acknowledged the government’s achievements in infrastructure development, security improvement, and economic growth.

He pointed out that the increase in foreign reserves to over $50 billion demonstrated the administration’s commitment to stabilizing the economy and restoring investor confidence.

The visit, he explained, was aimed at strengthening the council’s partnership with the government, securing the blessings of the SGF as a political leader, and reaffirming the loyalty of Nigerian youths to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
