The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured a court order to detain Sijibomi Ogundele, CEO of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited. The order is part of an investigation into his company’s failure to deliver 22 Smart Green School projects in Enugu State, despite being paid over ₦5.7 billion by the state government.

According to EFCC sources, Ogundele must now explain how he spent the funds without executing the contract. “He is expected to explain how he spent the N5.7billion or refund the money. His case looks straightforward,” said one official.

Meanwhile, the organisation is considering applying for a court order to seize funds in Ogundele’s personal and corporate accounts, which have already been frozen.

The contract in question was for constructing 22 Smart Green Schools, awarded in February 2025, with a six-month delivery period. The Enugu State Government claims that Ogundele received ₦5,762,565,475.25—50 percent of the total contract sum—as a mobilisation fee.

In a statement, the state government alleged that instead of meeting contractual standards, “Mr. Ogundele resorted to shoddy jobs and the use of inexperienced workers and quack engineers.” They further stated, “None of his sites little jobs done on the sites met the structural integrity of the projects as specified in the structural drawing.”

Enugu officials also claim that the sites were abandoned—during joint inspections on May 8 and 9, many locations were still only at foundational or damp proof course (DPC) level, with a few having moved on to block work, well behind schedule.

Ogundele, for his part, has blamed the Enugu State Government for under‐pricing the contract and cited inflation as a contributing factor to the failure.
As part of enforcement measures, the EFCC has frozen his accounts and confiscated his international passport. Ogundele is slated to meet with senior Enugu State officials about the Smart Green Schools project while the investigation continues.
