Vice-President Kashim Shettima is currently presiding over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Notably, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, and Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, are in attendance at this important gathering.

As stipulated by Nigeria’s constitution, the Vice-President serves as the chairman of the NEC, a council that plays a critical role in coordinating the economic planning efforts and programs across various levels of government.

The NEC, which meets monthly, includes all 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Minister of Finance, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and other key government officials and agencies responsible for economic matters.

Bill Gates’ presence at the meeting underscores his foundation’s ongoing commitment to Africa’s development.

His involvement in the NEC meeting highlights the importance of collaboration between global philanthropic organizations and Nigerian government officials in addressing the country’s economic challenges.

Aliko Dangote’s participation is particularly significant following his recent announcement of the commencement of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery.

The refinery, which is expected to play a transformative role in Nigeria’s economy, is a key point of discussion at the NEC meeting as the council deliberates on strategies to boost the nation’s economic stability and growth.

The presence of such high-profile figures at the NEC meeting signals the critical importance of the issues being discussed and the broad spectrum of collaboration required to advance Nigeria’s economic agenda.
