The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has firmly denied rumors circulating about a planned nationwide shutdown of major cities.

The leadership of the organization emphasized that these reports are unfounded and do not reflect the organization’s intentions.

NANS made it clear that it has not announced or endorsed any protest aimed at shutting down cities across Nigeria.

The student body’s Senate President, Akinteye Babatunde, addressed the issue in a statement released on Tuesday, dismissing the rumors as baseless and untrue.

The statement highlighted that NANS is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the country, particularly during challenging times.

The organization reiterated its dedication to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders, stating that actions leading to civil unrest or disruption of public order are not supported by NANS.

Furthermore, NANS urged the public to disregard these false claims, suggesting that those behind the misinformation are faceless entities attempting to destabilize the nation.

The organization called on security agencies to investigate the source of these rumors and to hold those responsible accountable.

In concluding their message, NANS reaffirmed its mission to advocate for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students through peaceful, lawful, and constructive means, underscoring its commitment to peace, progress, and national unity.

The student body also thanked Nigerian students and the public for their continued support, urging everyone to remain vigilant against misinformation.
