The Jigawa State Judiciary has dismissed rumors circulating on social media alleging that a court barred the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rabiu Mukhtar, from contesting Saturday’s Babura/Garki Federal Constituency by-election.
The election was necessitated by the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Isa Dogon Yaro.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Friday night, the Director of Publicity and Protocol of the Jigawa State Judiciary, Abbas Wangara, firmly refuted the claims.
“There has been no suit whatsoever filed before any honorable court in Jigawa concerning Rabiu Mukhtar Garki’s participation in the forthcoming by-election,” Wangara stated.
He stressed that no banning order exists against the APC candidate.
Describing the reports as “baseless and misleading,” Wangara noted that the courts in Jigawa are currently in recess and have not entertained any case relating to the election or Mukhtar’s candidacy.
He warned that spreading falsehoods on social media undermines public confidence and erodes judicial integrity.
“The judiciary remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring justice is served transparently and fairly during this election period,” he added, urging members of the public to rely only on credible sources for information.
Wangara further appealed to political actors and their supporters to desist from circulating unfounded claims that could fuel unrest or confusion.
“With courts in recess and no pending cases on the APC candidate, Jigawa’s judiciary stands firm in clarifying the facts amid a tense political atmosphere,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the alleged court ban on the APC candidate was nothing more than social media speculation.
