Nigerian singer Alexander Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has opened up about a harrowing experience in his career, revealing that he once suffered a mysterious illness that left him vomiting blood for six months.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show, the 45-year-old music star recounted the disturbing episode, which occurred between 2009 and 2010.

He said the condition, which forced him to leave his own home, was not medical in nature and described it as a spiritual attack.

According to the ‘Gongo Aso’ crooner, the experience marked a turning point in his life and belief system. In search of healing and answers, 9ice turned to traditional African spirituality, specifically Ifa, which he credits for his recovery and deeper understanding of his identity.

The singer, known for his use of Yoruba proverbs and cultural references in his music, said his spiritual journey helped him embrace African traditional religion.

He noted that legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti was once mocked for seeking protection from the god Ogun, but he now sees value in such traditions.

Encouraging Africans to reconnect with their roots, 9ice emphasized the importance of indigenous practices, stating that they play a crucial role in preserving heritage and cultural identity.
