Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has mobilised former federal lawmakers and northern political leaders to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, emphasising the need for unity, continuity, and national development.

Speaking at the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators held in Abuja, Gbajabiamila called on political stakeholders in the North to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition. He described the President as a unifying figure with a track record of inclusive governance.

“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along. From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity,” Gbajabiamila said.
Highlighting key developmental initiatives, Gbajabiamila pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects in Northern Nigeria—such as expanded road networks, rail developments, and agricultural revitalisationas evidence of the administration’s commitment to balanced growth.
“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” he added.

In a significant show of support, the Northern Caucus of the Forum formally endorsed the southern presidency in 2027, backing President Tinubu’s re-election.

The endorsement was announced through a communiqué jointly signed by the Coordinator of the Northern Caucus, Hon. Rufai Chanchangi, and the Secretary, Hon. Atiwurcha.

“As partners in nation-building, we subscribe to issues that unite us as a people for the peace and progress of our nation, Nigeria. We align with the unifying foundation of our country, which relates to the rotation of power between the North and South. We advocate that the South be allowed to complete its tenure,” the communiqué read.

“The forum believes that it will be in the best interest of the North for the incumbent to complete the tenure of the South.”
National Chairman of the Forum, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, praised the Northern Caucus for what he called a “bold and patriotic stand.”

“This resolution by the Northern Caucus is a significant statement of statesmanship. It shows leadership that transcends personal or regional interest. I am confident that more zones will follow this example in the spirit of unity and continuity,” Igbokwe said.

The 2025 Dialogue Session is part of a broader national consultation initiative by the Forum aimed at promoting inclusive governance and ensuring a seamless democratic transition.

While commending the administration’s efforts so far, participants at the session urged the government to intensify its response to the country’s security challenges particularly in Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, and Niger States.

The Forum also commended Gbajabiamila for engaging directly with former legislators and stressed the need for deeper collaboration with critical stakeholders to enhance governance outcomes.
