Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face familiar foes, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, in what promises to be a thrilling semi-final encounter at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

South Africa booked their place in the last four after edging Senegal 4-1 on penalties in a tense quarter-final on Saturday. The match had ended goalless after regulation and extra time, forcing a shootout in which the reigning champions held their nerve.

Their victory sets up a high-stakes showdown against Nigeria at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.

The Super Falcons, meanwhile, cruised into the semi-finals with a commanding 5-0 win over Zambia’s Copper Queens on Friday—extending their unbeaten run and underlining their title credentials. The Nigerian side has scored eight goals and is yet to concede in four matches, highlighting their defensive resilience and attacking flair.

This highly anticipated clash rekindles a fierce rivalry between two of the continent’s top women’s teams. Their last meeting came in the 2022 edition of the tournament, also hosted in Morocco, where South Africa claimed a narrow 1-0 win—just three years after falling to Nigeria in the final.

With both teams carrying strong form into the tie, fans can expect a tightly contested battle for a spot in the final.

In the second semi-final, hosts Morocco will take on Ghana’s Black Queens in another exciting fixture set for the same day.

WAFCON 2024 Semi-Final Fixtures:

Match: Nigeria vs. South Africa
Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2025
Time: 5:00 PM (WAT)
Venue: Stade Larbi Zaouli, Casablanca, Morocco.
