Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has formally announced the burial arrangements for former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London.

In Daura, Buhari’s hometown in Katsina State, mourners have continued to gather at his residence to pay their last respects. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as family members, long-time associates, neighbours, and close friends gathered to honour the late leader.

Many described Buhari as “humble, disciplined, and generous,” noting that he would be remembered for his integrity and simplicity. One of his longtime friends, Sulaiman Yarin-Katsina, said: “The late president’s unwavering simplicity made him remain deeply connected to his community throughout his life.”

Despite heightened security in Daura, particularly around the Emirate Council and the late president’s residence, commercial activities along the town’s major roads have continued uninterrupted.

Prominent individuals who visited the former president’s residence ahead of the burial include the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe; Deputy Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Saulawa; State APC Chairman, Sani Daura; Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Danmusa; former SUBEB Chairman, Lawal Daura; and AIG Zone 14, Aliyu Musa.

President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, and previously as military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985, was 81 years old at the time of his death.

Meanwhile, administrative processes have commenced to secure the release of Buhari’s remains from the hospital in London. Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, arrived in the UK on Monday to oversee the arrangements.

They were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum; and other top officials.

Condolence messages have continued to pour in from across the country, with many Nigerians and dignitaries describing Buhari as a man of honour and unquestionable integrity.
