Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided fresh insight into why Manchester United are unlikely to pursue Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite ongoing speculation linking the Nigerian international to the Premier League.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Thursday night, Romano clarified that the Red Devils are not in contention to sign the prolific forward due to financial constraints, particularly concerning the striker’s salary expectations.
“Many of you are asking me if Manchester United can try to hijack this deal,” Romano said. “I am not aware of Manchester United entering into this one — not just for the €75 million fee but also because of the salary.”
Osimhen, who is currently earning €12 million net per season at Napoli, is reportedly on the verge of joining Turkish giants Galatasaray, who are prepared to increase his salary to €16 million annually — a figure that would make him one of the highest-paid players in Europe.
Romano noted that the wage structure at Manchester United makes such a move highly improbable at this time. “The real point between Premier League clubs last summer and this summer has always been about the salary,” he said. “Osimhen is on €12 million net salary at Napoli, and imagine Galatasaray are prepared to pay €16 million net per season. This is completely different compared to the wage structure they have at Manchester United. This is why at the moment Manchester United have not made a move.”
Despite frequent links with a Premier League switch, Osimhen is now expected to continue his career in Turkey, having spent last season on loan at Galatasaray. The club is reportedly in the final stages of securing a permanent deal for the striker, amid limited interest from top European sides who are unable to match his wage demands.
