Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has ordered the immediate reconstruction of the Makera-Kangiwa road, which links the state to neighbouring Niger State, after it was severely damaged by recent flooding.

The directive was issued on Wednesday during the governor’s inspection of the washed-out portion of the road in Makera. Describing it as a “strategic economic route,” Governor Idris highlighted the road’s significance for both local communities and cross-border trade.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring vital infrastructure across the state.

“Governor Idris emphasised its importance not only to local mobility but also to cross-border trade with neighbouring countries. He tasked the Ministry of Works to identify and engage a competent contractor to execute the reconstruction without delay,” the statement read.

The governor further assured residents of the government’s resolve to deliver key developmental projects across Kebbi.

“This administration will not rest until critical infrastructure across the state is restored and expanded. Our people deserve the dividends of democracy, and we are committed to delivering just that,” he stated.

Also speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar-Muslim, disclosed that the ministry had already commenced the process of evaluating suitable contractors for the project.

“We understand the hardship this has caused, and we are moving swiftly to resolve it. His Excellency’s directive is clear—no delays, no excuses,” Umar-Muslim said.
