The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the commencement of wide-ranging consultations aimed at selecting a new National Chairman following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
In a statement released on Friday, the party confirmed that discussions are underway across the North Central geopolitical zone and other regions of the country, as it seeks to fill the vacant chairmanship position.
The APC noted that the move aligns with growing demands for fairness and balance within the party’s leadership structure. It emphasized that the North Central zone, given its longstanding loyalty and contributions to the party, should reclaim the chairmanship seat.
“This initiative follows the recent resignation of the former National Chairman, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, whose tenure came to an end amid calls for rebalancing and equity within the party’s leadership structure,” the statement read.
Party stakeholders—including elders, elected officials, youth and women groups, and other influential blocs—are currently being consulted to identify a candidate who embodies the party’s core values and can unify its ranks ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, the consultations aim to produce “a credible, unifying, and visionary candidate” capable of restoring confidence in the party’s leadership and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration without internal distractions.
The party further assured Nigerians and its members that the North Central zone is well-positioned to present a consensus candidate with national appeal, experience, and integrity.
“The outcome of our consultations will be presented to Mr. President, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC in due course,” the party added.
