A Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, guilty of contempt of court.
Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice Binta Nyako held that the suspended senator violated a standing court order by posting a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her Facebook page.
According to the judge, the post, published on April 7, mocked the court’s directive which had explicitly barred all parties from making public comments about the ongoing case.
“The content she published made a mockery of the order of the court,” Justice Nyako stated.
As a consequence, the court ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a formal apology within seven days in two national newspapers and also on her Facebook page. Additionally, she was directed to pay a fine of N5 million.
