The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has named Max Air as the most unresponsive domestic carrier regarding passenger complaints, based on recent data released by its Consumer Protection Department (CPD).

In a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed that the airline has consistently failed to address complaints filed by passengers.

“According to NCAA data, Max Air has been the most unresponsive domestic airline per passenger complaints and determinations by the NCAA CPD,” Achimugu said. “In some cases, there have been allegations of threats to travel agencies for daring to report to the CAA. This will be put to a stop immediately.”

He further revealed that the authority is investigating claims that Max Air allegedly issued threats to travel agencies that reported service failures to the regulatory body.

In a separate development, Achimugu criticized the operations of Air Côte d’Ivoire, accusing the Ivorian national carrier of cancelling scheduled flights when passenger loads are low. He alleged that the airline merges bookings from multiple days to meet minimum passenger thresholds a practice he noted is currently under review by the NCAA.

While reiterating the Authority’s commitment to supporting all airlines, Achimugu stressed that compliance with aviation regulations is mandatory.

“We understand that disruptions happen. But adherence to civil aviation regulations is not a choice of convenience. Both cases will be handled expeditiously by the NCAA,” he added.
