Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, commission two newly reconstructed roads in Agege and Igando-Ikotun as part of his administration’s broader effort to enhance road infrastructure, ease traffic congestion, and support economic growth across the state.
The two projects slated for commissioning are Abaranje Road in Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, formerly known as Old Dopemu Road, located in Agege Local Government Area.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, these roads are part of a wider infrastructure push that has already delivered 36 roads and five bridges to various communities across Lagos in 2025 alone.
He noted that despite prevailing economic difficulties, the government remains focused on building sustainable communities and improving transportation infrastructure.
Old Dopemu Road, now renamed in honour of Governor Sanwo-Olu, is a critical link between Akowonjo Road, Old Ipaja Road, and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. It serves as a major access route for residents in both Agege and Alimosho local government areas.
The reconstruction is expected to significantly improve mobility and reduce traffic delays.
In Igando, the Abaranje Road project is also seen as a vital development. Located within one of the most densely populated areas of Alimosho, the road is a key transit route for thousands of residents and traders.
Its rehabilitation is aimed at mitigating perennial flooding, improving travel times, and facilitating smoother movement of goods and people.
The state government stated that the completed projects are already boosting commercial activities and transportation efficiency within their respective communities.
Omotoso reaffirmed the administration’s determination to continue rehabilitating aging infrastructure and delivering new road networks in line with the governor’s THEMES+ development agenda.
