Some staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday staged a protest at the FCTA headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, to express their frustration over unpaid entitlements and unresolved welfare issues.

The protesters, operating under the aegis of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), carried placards bearing various inscriptions, including: “Non-payment of AEPB Enforcement Squad,” “Inaccessibility of the Salary Portal to Salary Desk Officers,” and “Withheld Salaries and Allowances of Workers for Over 6 Months,” among others.

Speaking to Channels Television, JUAC President, Mrs. Rifkatu Iortyer, said the union had made several appeals to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, since 2023, including writing official letters, but received no response.

“All our efforts have proved abortive. We have been patient long enough,” she stated, adding that the union has now issued a three-day ultimatum to the FCT Administration to meet their demands or face further action.

The workers’ demands include the immediate commencement of staff promotions due for 2023, 2024, and 2025; payment of a five-month wage award; payment of teachers’ salaries and allowances in the FCT; an end to the deduction of the National Housing Fund; and the initiation of regular training and retraining programmes for FCTA workers.
