The Sokoto State Police Command has taken a woman, identified as Fauziya Rabo, into custody in connection with a reported case of physical assault on her domestic worker, Bashariyya Usman.
According to the police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Rufai, the arrest followed the receipt of a formal petition alleging serious physical abuse.
In response, officers launched a swift investigation, which led to Rabo’s arrest. She is currently being held while investigations continue.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, sparking outrage across the state and beyond, as advocacy groups and citizens demand accountability and justice for the victim.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa addressed the matter, emphasizing the command’s firm stance against all forms of domestic violence. He affirmed that the police are committed to ensuring a thorough, unbiased investigation and pledged that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.
The Police Command also called on the public to avoid circulating unverified claims, warning that such actions could hinder the investigation or create unnecessary panic. Authorities assured the public that updates would be provided as the case develops.
Commissioner Musa further highlighted the broader commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of human rights and the safety of all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
