Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Monday commissioned a newly completed 2.5MVA injection substation in Udomi community, Esan Central Local Government Area, pledging continued infrastructure development across the state.

Accompanied by senior government officials, Governor Okpebholo inspected the substation, which is now fully operational and set to improve electricity supply to Udomi and neighboring communities.

Addressing residents during the commissioning, the governor expressed his satisfaction with the progress made and emphasized the significance of the project to the community’s development.

“I feel very happy and great, bringing development to the people of these communities,” Okpebholo said. “This is a new development for the people as they are feeling the impact of governance, which should be closer to the people.”

He added that the project would not only enhance access to electricity but also stimulate economic activity and open up the region for further growth.

“You can see the happiness in the faces of the people as they had not experienced governance in a long while, but my administration will ensure the people of Edo State feel the impact of good governance,” the governor stated.

“The State will witness more developmental projects as we have keyed into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This substation will surely open up this area and bring economic development to the people of this locality as businesses will thrive with a constant electricity supply.”

Also speaking at the event, the Business Head of Technical Operations at Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Engr. Mokwenye Jidenmah, praised the governor for facilitating the project and outlined its technical capacity.

“This is a 2.5MVA injection substation which is meant to serve over nine transformers around here, bringing down the 33KVA line to 11KVA lines,” Jidenmah explained. “The red line is to be energized at 11KVA. Before the end of today, the community will start enjoying electricity.”

The project forms part of a broader electricity extension initiative that will benefit six other communities in the region, including Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda, all within Uwessan.

In a related development, Governor Okpebholo visited the construction site of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology, where he lauded the State House of Assembly for the timely passage of the enabling legislation.

“I want to thank the Edo State House of Assembly for their support in ensuring that they passed the Bill for the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology Law, Udomi, 2025, which I have signed,” the governor said.

“This ongoing project is made possible due to the action of the lawmakers. Work is ongoing. We are serious about the project. Edo people should expect more projects.”

The governor’s recent activities reflect his administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and public service delivery, especially in underserved communities.
