Zenith Bank Plc has been named the “Best Bank in Nigeria” in the 2025 Global Finance Best Banks Awards, marking the fifth time in six years the bank has received the prestigious honour.

The award was presented during Global Finance’s 32nd Annual Best Bank Awards, which recognised top-performing banks from 36 African countries. This year’s winners were chosen based on their ability to serve customers effectively under challenging market conditions, achieve solid financial results, and position themselves for future success.

The selection process involved input from financial executives, analysts, consultants, and industry insiders. Key performance metrics included asset growth, profitability, innovation, strategic relationships, and governance. Subjective assessments from experts also influenced the final decision.

Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, described the recognition as a testament to the bank’s commitment to customer service, innovation, and sound corporate governance. She credited the bank’s continued success to the vision of its founder, Jim Ovia, the board’s guidance, the dedication of its staff, and the loyalty of its customers.

Global Finance’s editorial director, Joseph D. Giarraputo, noted that banks globally are adapting rapidly, especially through AI, and praised award recipients for their innovation and stability.

Zenith Bank continues to be a dominant force in Nigeria’s banking industry, earning multiple accolades over the years. These include:

  • Nigeria’s No. 1 Bank by Tier-1 Capital for 15 consecutive years (The Banker Magazine)
  • Bank of the Year (Nigeria) by The Banker in 2020, 2022, and 2024
  • Best Bank for Digital Solutions in Nigeria (Euromoney, 2023)
  • Best Commercial Bank, Nigeria (World Finance, 2021–2024)
  • Most Sustainable Bank, Nigeria (International Banker, 2023 & 2024)
  • Best Corporate Governance Bank (World Finance, 2022–2024)
  • Retail Bank of the Year and Bank of the Year (BAFI Awards, multiple years)

With this latest recognition, Zenith Bank reaffirms its status as one of Africa’s most resilient and forward-thinking financial institutions.
