Gunmen, suspected to be members of Boko Haram, launched a deadly attack on Faudiya Islamic School in Geidam, Yobe State, early Friday morning, resulting in the deaths of three students, according to the Yobe State Police Command.
The attack occurred around 3:45 a.m., as confirmed by Police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim.
The assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles and other weapons, arrived on motorcycles and infiltrated the school, allegedly with the intention of kidnapping students.
However, the attackers reportedly changed their plan, opting to kill the students rather than face the challenges of transporting them into the forest.
One student, who attempted to escape, sustained injuries and has been hospitalized.
Abdulkarim explained, “The divisional police headquarters in Geidam received a report this morning about an attack on a school.
Our personnel were promptly mobilized to the scene, where they recovered three bodies and rescued a wounded student.”
He further stated that the attackers, numbering about ten, decided to kill three of the students and injure another instead of abducting them.
A surviving student recounted that the gunmen initially intended to kidnap them but chose to kill them to avoid the difficulties of moving them.
The police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind this tragic event.
