The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Air Algérie will begin its inaugural direct flight service between Algiers and Abuja on April 6, 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Algeria.

According to a statement from the Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the new route is the result of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two countries.

The service will be operated by Air Algérie, using a Boeing 737 aircraft.

This new direct flight is expected to improve connectivity, promote tourism, and foster trade and investment between the two nations.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the commencement of Air Algérie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, scheduled for April 6, 2025,” the statement reads.

The Ministry also emphasized that this flight represents a milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Algeria, further highlighting the successful implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement.

Additionally, the Ministry commended the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers for its instrumental role in making the direct flight a reality.

The inaugural flight is expected to carry the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers, Nigerian community leaders, and representatives from the Algerian government.

The Nigerian Federal Government has expressed its full support for the new service and congratulated Air Algérie on the launch.

The new route offers Nigerians affordable travel options and provides a strategic gateway to Europe, given Algeria’s proximity to the continent. This will enhance Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

The Ministry’s statement further emphasized: “The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant aviation authorities, extends its warm congratulations to Air Algérie and assures all necessary support to ensure the success and sustainability of this new service.

We believe this initiative will further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Algeria, while opening new opportunities for mutual growth.”

Citizens and businesses are encouraged to seize the opportunities presented by this new direct connection, which will also promote trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
