The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara State Sector Command, has deployed 650 personnel and various equipment to ensure smooth traffic flow and road safety during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations across the state.

According to a statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Basambo Olayinka Busari, in Ilorin on Saturday, the deployment includes 350 officers and marshals, 120 first responders, 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks, and an additional tow truck. These resources will be strategically positioned to monitor all roads throughout the festivities.

The Kwara State Sector Commander, Mufutau A. Irekeola, stated that personnel have been assigned to manage traffic at key locations within Ilorin and other major cities in the state. The special patrol operation is scheduled to run from March 27 to April 2, 2025.

Irekeola urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and drive responsibly during the celebrations. He warned against reckless driving, wrongful overtaking, excessive speeding, overloading, and other traffic violations, including the use of phones while driving, operating faulty or rickety vehicles, and driving with worn-out tyres.

“To ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance road safety before, during, and after the celebrations, the Command has intensified public enlightenment campaigns. These include mega rallies at interstate motor parks, early morning sensitization drives, and advocacy visits to markets, churches, and mosques,” the statement read.

In addition to public awareness initiatives, special patrol operations and traffic control measures are being implemented to prevent congestion and ensure free movement along major roads, Irekeola added.
