The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, presented a N500,000 cheque to Miss Ifebude Benson, the overall best candidate in the 2023 Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (SSSCE) conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO).

The award was presented on behalf of Governor Soludo by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a ceremony on Sunday in Akwa.

Miss Ifebude Benson was represented by her father, Mr. Ben Benson, as she could not attend the event personally.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh highlighted that the award is part of the governor’s initiative to encourage academic excellence among students in the state.

She stated, “The award is the governor’s way of encouraging academic excellence among Anambra pupils and students.

The state government has made serious investments in education, aiming to elevate the quality of education to international standards and equip the Anambra child to compete favourably with their peers globally.”

Ifebude Benson, hailing from Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra, achieved a remarkable feat by scoring A1 in all nine subjects she took during the NECO examination.

She has since been admitted to the University of Abuja, where she is pursuing a degree in Medicine and Surgery.

In his remarks, her father, Mr. Ben Benson, expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for the recognition.

He said, “We are very grateful for the award.

It demonstrates Governor Soludo’s commitment to encouraging hard work and academic excellence.

This recognition will inspire my daughter to continue striving for greatness and to represent Anambra positively.”

The award serves as a testament to the state government’s dedication to fostering academic success and motivating students to excel in their educational pursuits.
